Semaglutide mimics GLP-1, a hormone your gut releases after eating. Wegovy is deliberately slow to build. You start at 0.25mg once a week for four weeks, then step up roughly every four weeks — 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg — to a maintenance dose of 2.4mg. That gradual climb is what keeps nausea and other early side effects manageable, so it is worth not rushing. Some people settle at a lower dose and stay there; that is a clinical decision we make with you rather than a fixed script.
Weight loss is steady rather than dramatic — typically 1–2lb a week once you are past the starting doses. The people who do best treat the injection as the thing that makes the other changes possible: eating enough protein, keeping fluids up, and moving most days.
